Today we saw 2 plumose sea anenomes on the side of the tank.There was a baby decorator crab dancing on the seagrass.

How to look after the seaquarium

My class takes care of the seaquarium.We have groups called marine teams.My marine team is called the Super Sea Cucumbers.The names of the people on my team are Brandon,Peyton,Lennon and me.Every week a different team takes care of the tank.First, we do the salinaty.Next,we check the water flow and air flow.Then,we do the water colour.Finally,we feed them.The other marine teams are The Killer Sharks,The Crabby Hunters,The Dolphins and The 4 Sharks.My whole class has a team.

For those who are in her class, you probably already know her, but this post is to announce that she will be taking control of the blog from now on. I start doing the blog today, Apr.16  2018. Sofia will be updating you on what is happening in the seaquarium.

New Animals in the Seaquarium

We are division 5, and we will be looking after the seaquarium at Vic West Elementary this year.  Yesterday Gillian and Heather from World Fisheries Trust brought new animals for our tank.  We now have these animals in the tank:

California sea cucumber

white sea cucumber

hermit crabs

big and little barnacles

tube worms

a decorator crab

purple volcano sponge

an orange sea star

two pandala shrimp

a tiny green isopod

a shy tidepool sculpin

plumose sea anemones

a red sea urchin and a green/purple sea urchin

three kinds of chitons: black katy, lined and mossy

and a species of nudibranch called a sea lemon.

We might have missed something.  Stay tuned for more information on these animals.  In the meantime, here is a picture of our now crowded tank.

Did You Know: the secret lives of barnacles!😲

Here are some fun facts about barnacles:

1. The little things that come out of them are limbs, so they're not tasting, they're feeling!
2. They can live on any surface that is in the sea!
3.  They can live to be older than ten years old!

Window Cleaner!

The Crab is Cleaning the Glass!

We have seen the decorator crab up close to the glass and it looks like it's cleaning the windows. 

Most of the animals are happy about this and have come out of their hiding spots.

So thanks to the decorator crab, the seaquarium is once again a happy place. 😏

The Squat lobster has been found guilty!

He is hiding and hoping he will not be found. 😓

Since he is laying low, we should keep our eyes peeled to find him even more.

The Squat Lobster is angry! 😠

The squat lobster has been very crabby lately!

He pinched the sail fin sculpin! 😲

And he pushed the hermit crab! 😡

Here's what Hudson has to say on the matter:

"I think the squat lobster wants to be left alone, and the other animals are trying to make him happy, and that's why I think he's going on a rampage."

Interesting idea Hudson! 😥 

All we know is that the squat lobster has struck, and no one knows when he will strike next!

It is called the Turkish Towel (sounds more like a bathroom product than an animal)!

It looks kinda like a bumpy piece of seaweed!

Meet Donnatello!

                              Sea Fruit!!!!!

This is Donatello (Named after the ninja turtle):

He is Merlin the Adventurer's replacement. I think he could be pretty good at his job, but hey, maybe he's evil. The past few days have gone well, but I'm still keeping an eye on him...

We think Merlin is dead. If he truly is, here's what his gravestone should say:


                                        Here lies Merlin the Adventurer
                                        Friend, inspiration for many posts.

As you can see, he has a hole in him and that is not good. But..... Fin, Classmate and part of my marine team, expertly spotted a baby sea cucumber by the back of the tank near the spot that merlin hung out, and that began our theory that maybe he isn't dead. Maybe the hole is in him because SHE had a baby. That's all for now. Goodbye!

                              CHAPTER I                               



One day in the Rowansgate City aquarium, there was a sailfin sculpin named Finn.
 He was in tank #120 with his friends Phil the lobster and Jeff the shrimp. They were hanging out in the tank when suddenly Jeff sprang out from behind some coral. "Who wants lobster for dinner?!" And Phil started crying:
"Wah!" And then Finn said:
"Oh, come on! Is the whole day going to be like this?"
"Hmmph! Apparently so." said Phil.
"Seriously! How was I supposed to know he was a lobster?!" said Jeff.
"Uuuuuh... Because you live with him!" said Finn.
" I always thought he was a crab!" said Jeff.
"WHAT?!" shouted Phil.
"Alright, stop it, STOP IT! Will you please apologize to each other?" said Finn
"NO!" said Jeff and Phil.
"Do it." said Finn.
"Nope." said Phil.
"Do it!" said Finn.
"Got a big bucket o' NO with your name on it!" said Jeff.
"Just do it." said Finn.
"See that sack o' NO? It says Finn." said Phil.
"APOLOGIZE!!!!" said Finn
"Fine!" they said together.
"Sorry." said Jeff.
"Sorry." said Phil. And then the top of the tank opened and cheers erupted from the tank. "FOOD!!!!!" they shouted.

Tiny Frogs!!!!!! (Updated)

   WE HAVE TADPOLES IN THE CLASS!  

We have tadpoles in the classroom! They look like little green worms, but they also look like those early fish from the Paleozoic period. Ms. Carrico feeds them veggie fish flakes and they live in a tank. Here are some pictures and a video:
